Derrick and I decided a while back that we would do birthday parties for our kids 4th, 8th, 12th and 16th birthdays. They are the milestone ages and then I don't feel guilty about going all out since they only get a few parties. I want them to be able to remember them. We still celebrate big the other years but I wanted these to be different in a special kind of way.
Anyhow, since Madi was turning 4, I got the chance to throw my first birthday party for her. Madi chose to have a Tangled party. My super amazing sister in law, Erin, helped me make these adorable invites for Madi's birthday party. I absolutely love how they turned out!
Since I was sick the week before and then made a really quick trip to Cali the days before, I didn't get half as much done as I would've liked to but I still think the kids enjoyed themselves and had a great time. I am a little bugged with myself that I didn't get pictures of all the cute details. What was I thinking?!
Madi's Grandma and Grandpa Hawkins were able to come to he party and were a HUGE help to me in the kitchen and getting some of the food ready. They gave her a Disney Princess card and $50.
My sweet four year old...
The first to show up was Eden. I made Rapunzel crowns with braids for all the girls and little felt swords for the boys. I thought the kids would enjoy coloring with side walk chalk like Rapunzel did in the village. They were more interested in the dirt and singing to the golden flower...

We played Duck, Duck, Goose. The kids LOVED this and would have probably played it the whole time! L to R: Ella, Eden, Teagan, Easton W., Guire & Ava
Run Madi, Abby is going to tag you!
Then they played London bridges. Ella & Sammy don't look too upset about being locked up!
Here's where I just forgot to take pictures. They played tug-o-war with Rapunzel's braid and then had lunch. We served blue Jello with an orange slice boat floating on top, Rapunzel's hair bows (bow tie pasta) with marinara and breadsticks. Then we ate yummy cupcakes with cute toppers that Erin made stuck in the top.
After we were done eating we went inside to open presents. Madi's friends totally spoiled her! She got a fishing game, a Barbie, lots of bracelets, a kite, bubbles, and Ariel and Rapunzel doll, a purse, lots of make-up, a Minnie Mouse phone and lots more! I am sure I am missing something.
This was my favorite part of the party, when we gave her our gift (although it shows how incredibly spoiled my little princess is). We got her the seven pack of Disney Princess Barbies from Target. I thought she would go crazy with excitement and she was grinning as she opened it. She turned it over and set it down. She ran to me, almost in tears, and said "It was supposed to be a castle!" She had been wanting the Disney Princess Barbie castle. Of course, she wasn't disappointed. Derrick brought up her castle and the tears quickly turned to excitement,
After presents it was back outside to get "tangled up" in some crepe paper. The kids thought it was kind of dumb so that didn't last long. As soon as I said they could break out of it they didn't hesitate. Next they went "fishing" with Rapunzel's braid and then it was time for the last thing, the piñata.
I had seen this on Pinterest and thought it would be super easy. It was, except I forgot to put something in to reinforce the top so it could hang. Duck tape fixes everything though, right? We gave Madi the pan and let her swing away!
Ava took a turn next and knocked it to the ground. We decided to let them beat it from there.

After everyone took a turn, I ripped the box, scattered the candy and told the kids to go at it! It was funny to watch them. The best was Easton W. He would only pick up Jolly Ranchers. Cute kid!
As the kids were getting picked up I heard Abby say "This was the best party EVER!" I am so glad it was a success and that Madi had a special day with so many of her little friends. We love our family, ward and neighbors!
***Special thanks to Erin for all of your help. You are AMAZING!
