About Me

Madison...

Madison...
In July 2009 our lives were blessed with the most
wonderful gift ever! We adopted our sweet little Madison. She is full of energy
and keeps us on our toes. She has a smile that will melt your heart and knows
just how to work her mommy and daddy. Madi brings so much joy and happiness into
our lives and we cherish every moments we have with her!

Easton...

Easton...
On April 20, 2011 our sweet little Easton joined our family. We are so grateful
for the blessings of adoption and the amazing woman that has helped to bring our
family here. We are so excited to have a little guy around the house and look
forward to watching him grow.

Tell me something...

The last few weeks Madi has been asking me on a daily basis "Tell me something about when you got married."  Some days I tell her a little, other days a lot and some days we get out the scrapbook and go through the pages, explaining different moments of our day.  Madi has been obsessed with getting married since we went to the temple to have Easton sealed to us.  Today when we were out driving around she asked me if I would make her wedding dress.  I told her I would love to.  She has asked me if I will go to watch her when she gets married and even if I would come on her honeymoon.  We'll see if she still feels the same way about that last one in 20 years. :D

A day at the park...

I have been needing to get updated pictures of my two little kiddos for a while and haven't got around to it.  So, since we had nothing planned for the day and sunshine was in the forecast I decided to do it today.  It was still too cold to get very many but I at least got a couple of each that I love. After pictures we fed the ducks for a few minutes.  The kids loved that, especially Easton!
I LOVE this one of the three of them...
Easton was fearless when it came to the ducks.  He let them take the bread right out of his hand.  Funny thing though, each time they got by his hand he would close his eyes.  Love this kid!

A visit with Mindy...

After Easton's doctors appointment yesterday we were able to stop and see Mindy and Jeff.  Easton was THRILLED by the dog and cat she has.  Madi liked them too but took a little longer to warm up to everyone.
Playing with Lady...
Grandma Marcie was there too!  The kids both adore her!  We got in the car to leave and Madi said "I love Grandma Marcie."
We were also able to meet Melissa, Mindy's sister that just moved back from Cali.  Here's Madi and her playing with Easton's car.
I am totally bummed that Melissa's eyes are closed in this.  I should have looked at the pictures before I left.  Even with her eyes closed I still like this one.
We always enjoy being able to see Mindy and her family and are so blessed to have them in our lives.

Scariest day EVER...

There are lots of things that I never want to happen, to me or anyone else.  One of my biggest fears is to have one of my loved ones, especially Derrick, Madi and Easton have a traumatic or chronic medical issue.  I never want to see them suffer.  I never want to see them in pain.  On Valentine's Day my fear came to life.
On Feb. 13th, Easton woke up from his nap with a fever of 100.1.  I gave him some Tylenol and didn't think much of it.  He didn't act like anything hurt, he was a little tired and whiny.  He went to bed normal that night.
Derrick heard him crying around 2:00am and went to lay with him.  Easton asked for a drink and went back to bed, no problem.  Derrick got up to get ready for work, got out of the shower and heard Easton moaning and making a gurgling sound.  He noticed white foam around his mouth and nose and brought him to me to see what I thought.  I wiped it off and said it was spit, noticing how hot he was.  Then I noticed he was stiff as a board.  I couldn't bend any of his limbs.  We couldn't wake him up.  He was shaking, not violently, but still shaking.  I grabbed him and told Derrick to call 911 while I got dressed.  I knew something was wrong.  He was already seizing when Derrick found him and we held him for at least 10 minutes while his seizure continues. (I say ten based on the phone calls we made.  Probably closer to 15 minutes that we held him.)  He started to come out of the seizure just as the first responder was coming up the drive.  His eyelids fluttered a little and his eyes rolled back and closed again.  I laid him on the couch and his body started to relax and we were able to move his limbs.  They took his stats.  His temp was 102.  He remained unresponsive and lethargic as they did this.  They got him in the ambulance and started a nebulizer treatment as we drove to the hospital.  I rode up front and kept hearing them shout his name to keep him awake.  As they took him out of the ambulance he had a look on his face that was terrifying to me.  He stared off in the distance, his eyes glassy, and showed no response to anyone or anything going on around us.  I took him out of his car seat and laid him on the bed so they could get him hooked up to all the things they needed.  Derrick and our friend Chad gave him a blessing.  He fell asleep and stayed asleep until they brought the x-ray machine in to check his lungs.  He was obviously upset by this and would make eye contact but still showed no emotion or any sign that he knew who I was.  I gave him some Tylenol after the x-ray and they flushed his sinuses for some tests.  Then I picked him up.  This made him mad and he screamed and hit and kicked me, trying to push me away.  I laid him back on the bed and he went right to sleep. The doctor came and said the RSV, pneumonia and influenza tests all came back negative.  He was ready to let us go.  I asked if they had ran a CBC with diff.  (My mom had asked if they had done that.  She is an ICU nurse.  This would tell if the fever was from a virus or bacteria.)  The doctor thought that would be a good idea.  They came to draw his blood.  It had been about two hours since he had had his seizure and he finally seemed to be himself and respond to Derrick and I.  He let me hold him and cuddle him which brought relief to me.  The test came back as viral and they sent us home.
He and I slept for a while and he seemed to be himself when he woke up other then being weak  and having no balance.  His legs were like Jell-o when he walked.
Yesterday I followed up with our pediatrician.  He agreed with the ER doc that it was most likely a Febrile Seizure (common seizure brought on by a rapid increase in body temperature in children 6 mo to 5 years of age).  To give me peace of mind he did give me a referral to see a specialist at Primary Childrens Hospital.  I am taking him there on Thursday with hopes that it was just what they think, a febrile seizure.  I am mostly concerned because of the length of time, the complexity of it and the fact that his birth grandpa has seizures.  (That is just another reason I am so thankful for the openness we have in our adoption.)
We have been so blessed to have so many wonderful friends that are there to love and support us whenever something comes up.  My good friend Andrea took Madi for the day and spoiled her like crazy!  Madi hasn't stopped talking about it since.  She brought us dinner and a movie for Easton too.  She's so amazing!  We have had countless calls, texts and messages to see how they can help or what they can do and it has been so touching to have the support that we do.  I love my ward family so very much and can't think of a better place to live!  I am grateful for the priesthood and a worthy husband that can administer blessings when they are needed.  I am grateful for a loving Heavenly Father that comforts me in my time of need and for a loving family.

Valentine Hearts...

They had the cutest idea in this months Friend for "stained glass hearts"  It was super easy so for family night we made a bunch.  Madi was so excited to put them in our window and I'm sure she'll be sad when I take them down.

Of course Madi is in her "ballerina"
and Easton has his cars. :D
Here's a little closer look at the hearts.  They were lots of fun to make and only a little messy.

Dancing Queen (and other stuff)...

Madi loves to have her picture taken.  She loves to be the center of attention and thinks she needs it all day long.  I wish I could spend all day playing with her but people keep wearing clothes at my house and eating and messes seem to reproducing so she has to share my time.  She loves to play dress up, kitchen, Barbies and My Little Ponies.  She continues to love music and dancing.  She sees pictures of dancers and tries to mimic their poses and dance steps.  She loves to read stories and has recently been asking me on a daily basis to tell her about when I got married.  The other day she asked me if I would go with her on her honeymoon.  Wonder if she will still feel that way in 20 years. :P
Since I have been using the Lose It app and counting my calories, I have been measuring my food.  Last weekend I was sick so I stayed in bed all weekend.  Derrick told me later that he poured Madi's cereal and milk and she refused to eat because he didn't measure it first.  She catches on to big words and loves to say them.  I love hearing what words she uses.  I think it makes her feel so grown up.  She is getting better with Easton or maybe it only seems that way because Easton is getting worse.  She still can make him laugh like nobody else and he still wants to see her the minute she wakes up.
We have started going to the library once a week.  Before we left a few times ago I told her to think about something she wanted to learn.  I wanted her to get a nonfiction book each time and start teaching her about some of the things she's interested in.  As we sat at the table in the library I leaned over and asked her what she had decided.  She said  "I want to learn about Jesus."  My heart about melted and I told her that was a great thing to learn about.  I hope she never looses the love she has for her Savior and for the temple.  She is so inquisitive and curious about everything.  I love it (most of the time)!  She is a great helper for me and is usually willing to do all her "jobs".  I love that she is so eager to help and can only dream that it won't fade as she gets older.
My little Easton is turning into a little man.  He thinks he can do everything by himself, especially if his big sister can.  He has started asking to go potty and poop in the toilet and no longer wants to wear diapers. I so don't want to start him right now since Madi was so stubborn about it.  He likes to color and play with his cars.  He almost always has at least one he's carrying around.  He loves to play with Madi and will play almost anything she wants.  He has decided that he doesn't have to watch what Madi wants all the time and that he should get to pick too.  Aside from Cars, he loves to watch Tinkerbell and Tangled.
He has become a lot more aggressive the last couple of months and has found ways he can push Madi's buttons and get her upset.  (Of course she does it to him too).  He is still a good eater and loves food.  He talks more and more every day.  My favorite part is in the morning when he wakes up and he gets on the floor next to his door and yells in the cutest way "Maaaa eeeee" until I wake up or hear him and come open his door.  I couldn't dream of a better alarm.  He greets me with big hugs and kisses.
I love to be their mom and love to see them interact with each other and play and laugh.  They are such sweet miracles to me and I thank my Heavenly Father for them every day!
These are of Derrick and Madi dancing tonight.  Such a good daddy!
Easton wanted his turn too...

Let it snow and snow some more...

The kids have loved all the snow we have had this year. Half these pictures are from Jan. 29th and the other half from the following day.
Making snow angels...

Madi loves to play in the snow and would stay out there all day if I would let her.  She is always sad when I tell her it's time to go inside and will usually try to talk her way out of it.  I am glad she loves being outside so much.
Easton loves it too.  He loves to throw it and eat it.  I think every time we go out to the car he grabs a handful to suck on in the car.

and snow castles...
